The Rise of Organic Farming Discourse

Abstract: The article discusses the travel accounts of agriculturists and their discourse on organic farming. It presents the concept of "Green Orientalism" with composting as the natural agricultural method of the east and describes it as the wheel of health which links the soil to human nutrition, health and disease creating a life cycle of growth and decay. The comparison with Western industrialized farming using chemical fertilizers and mechanization for increased yields is also discussed.
